WAEC releases 2025 BECE results

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially announced the tentative results of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for school candidates.

In a press release dated August 23, 2025, WAEC declared that the results had been distributed to various schools via Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Directors of Education. Candidates can also view their results online at the Council’s official website, www.waecgh.org.

This year’s BECE had a total of 603,328 candidates, including 297,250 males and 306,078 females from 20,395 schools nationwide. The tests were held in 2,237 centres, with 2,526 students absent. Individuals with special needs were also included in the candidate group, including 72 with visual impairments, 239 with hearing impairments, and 161 who required other accommodations**.

WAEC reported in a statement signed by John Kapi, Head of Public Affairs, that following investigations into irregularities in the examination and script marking, the 36th Meeting of the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee authorised the following actions:

Subject results for 718 applicants were annulled.
The entire results of 177 contestants were cancelled.
Subject results for 1,240 candidates were withheld.
The entire results of 93 contestants were withheld.

This raises the total number of cancelled and withheld results to 895 and 1,333, respectively.

Subject results from 119 schools have been cancelled, while results from 87 schools are still being reviewed. The findings of these ongoing investigations will determine whether the withheld results are revealed or annulled by September 6, 2025.

Candidates whose results have been withheld or cancelled should go to https://irreg.waec.org or click the withheld/cancelled results button on the WAEC website homepage.

The platform will explain why the action was taken and provide suggestions on how to proceed. School administrators can also access this information through their official logins.

WAEC advised students and the general public to be careful of scammers who offer to improve grades for a price. The Council underlined that its findings are safe, tamper-proof, and verifiable.

WAEC thanked the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, security agencies, school principals, invigilators, examiners, and other partners for their assistance in the successful administration of the 2025 BECE and the distribution of results.
