Shamsudeen Iddrisu and Boateng Kwadwo, two New Patriotic Party (NPP) members, have filed an application for an interlocutory order in Accra’s High Court, seeking to halt the party’s impending Extraordinary National Delegates Conference.
The motion, filed on July 14, 2025, by its legal counsel, Agyemang Duah of CharisBrit Legal Consult, seeks that the court prevent the NPP from holding the scheduled conference at the University of Ghana Stadium from July 18 to July 20, 2025.
The plaintiffs argue that the court should halt the meeting until they resolve a substantive legal challenge they have filed against the party.
According to court records seen by this reporter, the plaintiffs argue that the conference’s organisation violates certain party rules and may prejudice the outcome of the ongoing dispute. Therefore, they are pleading with the court to maintain the current state of affairs until the highlighted legal issues receive resolution.
The application, filed under Order 25 of C.I. 47, also requests that the court grant any additional orders it considers appropriate to promote fairness and justice in the matter.
As of the time of posting this report, the NPP has not responded to the injunction application.
The Extraordinary Delegates Conference is an important event on the NPP’s political calendar, and it is often used to discuss key party issues and make high-level decisions. Any disturbance might have a huge impact on the party’s internal dynamics, particularly with the 2028 elections approaching.
