Beginning on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, riders of public transportation will be able to take advantage of fares that have been reduced by 10%.

This comes after the price of petrol has been gradually lowered by small amounts over time.

In a statement released on Monday evening, the operators of road transportation indicated that the cut impacts shared taxis, intra-city (trotro) transportation, intercity (long distance) transportation, and haulage.

“In accordance with the administrative arrangement on public transport fares, the road transport operators have reduced public transport fares by ten percent to accommodate the reduction in the price of petroleum products observed over the period,” the operators declared.

This reduction was done in order to account for the fact that the price of petroleum products has decreased over the course of the period.

Because of the fall in the price of crude oil on international markets and the relatively stable value of the Ghana cedi, the prices of petroleum products have witnessed a little drop in the second pricing window of May 2023. These two things together were what caused this.

At the pumps, it is expected that diesel will cost GHS 12.30 per liter, while gasoline will cost GHS 12.15 per liter. These prices are based on predictions.

It has been suggested to commercial transport operators that they comply with the revised rates and post the same information at their loading ports.

The statement came to a close by making the following plea: “We further request all operators, commuters, and the general public to kindly cooperate for the successful implementation of the new fares.”
