Abass Imoro, the Industrial Relations Officer of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), has hinted at an impending cut in transport fares, giving relief to commuters as the Ghana cedi strengthens against the US dollar.
Speaking to Channel One News on Monday, May 19, Imoro stated that continuing negotiations between transport companies and the Ministry of Transport are nearing completion, with a final meeting slated for Tuesday, May 20.
“It was a marathon meeting.” The transport ministry is seeking for a percentage, and so are the transport operators. Finally, we closed halfway. We’re going back, and we’ll meet with them tomorrow to make the final choice,” he explained.
According to him, the discussions are centred on transport fares reduction that reflect the Cedi’s appreciation, promising passengers that the outcome of the conference will provide some respite for their purses.
“The meeting is about the reduction in transport fares, so the public should rest assured that we will give them a smiley reduction,” Imoro remarked.
