Kennedy Boakye Ansah, Nations FC’s Brands Manager, has said that his team received death threats before their Ghana Premier League match against Basake Holy Stars on Sunday.

Nations were leading the league going into the match, and they needed to win or avoid defeat to continue their momentum and compete for a historic first title.

Basake, on the other side, needed to avoid defeat in order to continue playing in the Ghana Premier League beyond the current season.

Nations FC abandoned the match in the middle of the game due to what the club later claimed as disputed officiating calls, which resulted in two penalties against them.

Nations issued a statement following the incident, outlining main reasons for the game’s abandonment.

Kennedy Boakye Ansah, Brands Manager of the Kumasi-based team, is the latest to join the discourse.

Speaking with 3Sports, he revealed that the club received death threats before the game began in Basake.

“We’ll submit an official complaint with the GFA. We shall see what decision the FA makes.

“As already stated, we are no longer interested in Ghanaian football. They said, “Either we lose the game [against Basake Holy Stars] or they kill someone.”

The Ghana Football Association will make the final decision on the incident in Basake, awarding three points to Basake Holy Stars and declaring the game a forfeit by Nations FC.
