Gender inequality in China is serious. Following years of the one-child policy, the country today has millions more males than women, making marriage a highly competitive sport.
To address the population crisis, some local governments are providing cash incentives, tax rebates, and even subsidized homes to couples who marry and have children. It’s not quite a’marry now, get rich’ program, but every little bit counts!
