The EC rejects the results of these constituencies

The Electoral Commission (EC) has stated that it will not accept the collated results of the Ablekuma North and Okaikwei Central seats in the recently concluded parliamentary elections.

In a press event on Thursday, the EC Chair explained that the Commission made this decision due to anomalies discovered during the collation and subsequent declaration.

According to the EC, the winner of Okaikwei Central was declared without results from 31 voting stations, while the winner of Ablekuma North lacked results from 62 polling stations.

Both constituencies were declared for candidates from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Madam Mensa branded these actions as “illegal,” claiming that such pronouncements could not be upheld.

She stated that its employees made the claims in response to threats from party fans.

Despite the presence of police at our regional offices, the collation process was once again disrupted and taken over by political party leaders and supporters, and the results for both constituencies were declared without following appropriate process.

In the case of Okaikwei Central, a winner was declared without aggregating results from all 31 voting stations. In the instance of the Ablekuma North constituency, a winner was declared without the results of 62 voting stations, which is improper.

“It is important to note that the declarations made by our staff were made under threat, and Commission considers this as illegal, those declarations, as well as others that have gone on in other constituencies will not be upheld by the Commission,” according to her.

Overall, the Commission will re-collate results for nine constituencies: Nsawan Adoagyiri, Ahafo Ano South West, Ahafo Ano North, Obuasi East, Okaikwe Central, and Ablekuma North. Others include Tema Central, Techiman South, and Dome Kwabenya.

The EC Chair urged the sitting President and President-elect to increase security and create a safe atmosphere for the EC to collect results for the outstanding constituencies.
