The Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) go off this Saturday, June 1 at 7:00 p.m., making it the biggest music night in Ghana.

With everyone waiting impatiently for their favorite singer to win the prizes in the categories they are nominated for, all roads will lead to the Accra International Conference.

2024 TGMAs: 5 categories to watch out for and the nominees

Along with the two tiers of tickets for VIP and Premium, the TGMAs organizers have also revealed the artists for Saturday night.

King Promise has emerged as the front-runner in the heated discussions regarding who will take home the coveted Artiste of the Year prize.

However, Sarkodie, Kuami Eugene, Stonebwoy, and Black Sherif—all of whom had already won it with Nacee, a newcomer to the award.

But this is not the only category to look out for; Best Rapper of the Year, Dancehall Reggae artiste of the Year, Gospel Artiste of the Year and Songwriter of the Year are all categories worth debating about.

Which nominee wins what amongst these five categories on Saturday night?

Artiste of The Year: One of the most debated categories over the years. This category has top-notch artistes such Black Sherif, King Promise, Kuami Eugene, Nacee, Sarkodie, and Stonebwoy nominated. All of their nominated songs have performed exceedingly well both locally and abroad.

The Artiste of the Year award is the highest honor given to the artist(s) adjudged by Charterhouse, GMA Board, Academy, and the General Public as having the highest audience appeal, highest radio play, highest online streaming and popularity.

Best Reggae Dancehall Artiste of the year: Epixode, Ras Kuuku, Stonebwoy and Samini have been lined up for the award on Saturday night. Who earns the bragging right? The question on the minds of many – a surprise is in the offing.

Best Rap Performance of the Year: One of the toughest categories for this year with a number of lyrically good, quality flow and punchline rappers. It’s the hardest category for me and will really be a tough one. Amerado, Eno Barony, FimFim, Lyrical Joe, Medikal, Sarkodie and Strongman are facing stiff competition from each other for this one.

Best Gospel Song: Patience Nyarko, Mabel Okyere, Nacee, Perez Muzik, Piesie Esther, Scott Evans, Diana Hamilton and Joyce Blessing are going head-to-head on this one.

Best Highlife Artiste of the Year: Abiana, Kofi Kinaata, Kuami Eugene, Akwaboah and FRA on this beat is not surprising. All artistes have been marvelous for the year under review and deserve the accolade. However, the award has to go to just one artiste. Who will it be? your guess is as good as mine.

Multi-talented host and actor Chris Attoh will host the 25th Telecel Ghana Music Awards on Saturday, June 1. This will make it his fourth appearance as the emcee of the Ghana Music Awards successfully hosting the event in 2011, 2012, and 2016.

Grab your tickets and prepare for the showdown on Saturday night.
