Ghanaian swimmer Harry Stacey exits men’s 100m freestyle at Paris 2024 Olympics

Men’s 100-meter freestyle swimmer Harry Stacey of Ghana ended his Olympic ambition early on Tuesday, bowing out of the tournament.

The newcomer, who received a wildcard ticket to the Paris 2024 Games, was seventh in his group after failing to go past the heats. His timing of 51.12 seconds qualified him for the games.

Crushing expectations for Ghana’s first Olympic swimming medal, Stacey’s performance was below both his personal best and the qualification criteria for the semi-finals.

The young swimmer was not able to perform on the high-pressure Olympic stage, even though he had expressed optimism before the tournament.

Rose Yeboah, a high jumper, and swimmer Joselle Mensah are among the other athletes who now carry the dreams of the country.

Ghana is aiming to surpass its solitary bronze medal from the Tokyo Olympics, with the men’s 4x100m relay team also carrying significant expectations.
