The National Communications Authority (NCA) has confirmed receiving an official reply from Multichoice Ghana in response to its notice about potentially suspending the company’s authorization and requesting a review of its pricing structure.

The NCA also announced that the first meeting of the Stakeholder Committee is scheduled for Monday, September 8, 2025.

This development follows a warning by the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, who threatened to shut down MultiChoice Ghana’s DStv services on September 6 if the company did not engage in talks about lowering subscription fees.

The Minister’s statement came after MultiChoice Ghana denied agreeing to reduce subscription prices, even as the government established a joint committee to discuss possible price cuts.

In a statement on September 5, 2025, MultiChoice Ghana reiterated its willingness to engage in dialogue but said no decision had been made regarding fee reductions.

On September 7, 2025, the NCA issued a press release detailing ongoing discussions with Multichoice Ghana after the company’s September 5 statement.

The Authority outlined three key clarifications:

  1. Multichoice Ghana has agreed to the directive from the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations to establish a Stakeholder Committee to evaluate DSTV pricing in Ghana. The company has pledged to fully participate in the process.
  2. The outcome of the committee’s work will be determined at the end of its review.
  3. Multichoice has confirmed its commitment to respect due process, as well as the laws of Ghana and its people.
