Dancehall musician Shatta Wale from Ghana has made his opinions regarding the state of the Ghanaian music industry quite plain.
In an interview on 3Music Networks on Friday, February 16, 2023, the self-proclaimed king of African dancehall stated that his partnership with Beyoncé was the final opportunity God offered Ghana’s music industry to flourish.
The last chance God gave our industry was my feature with Beyoncé – Shatta Wale
In his comparison of the major award programs of the Nigerian and Ghanaian music industries, he raised the question of incentives for the Artiste of the Year winners in each nation.
“Let’s face it, there are awards ceremonies taking place in other parts of the world. They are flying their artist of the year to Dubai, and they can’t even make it to the Ghana Music Awards.”
He claims that the sector has lost the opportunity to excel because too much emphasis is placed on the wrong people.
“When people are talking about Nigeria I don’t want them to continue because I feel like Ghana got their chance. Let me tell you the last chance God gave us; Shatta Wale featuring Beyoncé. But you see we, we want watch the coat man, we want watch people like Sarkodie” he said.
Despite controversies and clashes with other artistes, he remains one of the most influential figures in Ghanaian music.
The artiste has recently praised his current manager, Sammy Flex for giving him a listening ear and providing exactly his demands as an artiste.
According to Shatta Wale, the previous managers he’s worked with always look out for different demands not aligned with what he desires.
He noted that Sammy Flex really understands him best than all the previous managers he has worked with.
