Communications Minister Sam George has approved the discharge of over 100 Ghana Post Limited employees, alleging an improper recruitment process.

The concerned employees were hired after the December 7, 2024, election, during which the minister claims proper procedures were not followed.

Speaking about the decision, Sam George underlined his determination to rid the ministry of individuals whose recruitment did not follow established norms.

Sam George added that as the ministry’s chief, he could not cooperate with employees whose jobs were tainted by irregularities.

“If you are a minister and you take over a ministry that has 3,117 staff in the ministry and its agencies and 600 were recruited after December 7, you cannot expect me to come and inherit such a mess, and so the rationalisation is ongoing,” he said to the media on Tuesday.

He went on: “Today, I have authorised a termination of a few more at Ghana Post, almost 100 that were done post-election.”

The Communications Minister indicated that irregular recruiting had resulted in jobs being filled without due process, causing inefficiencies within the department.

The Ningo-Prampram congressman stressed that he is on a mission to “clean up the ministry to make sure that it is lean and efficient and carries out its works.”

The government has been revoking several post-election appointments in the public sector, which it claims were made without following established protocols in various areas of the economy.
