Rev. Dr Stephen Wengam, General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God in Ghana, has been chosen Chairman of the Ghana Immigration Service’s newly formed Governing Council.
President John Dramani Mahama made his appointment, which was officially confirmed on June 26, 2025, during an inauguration ceremony at the Ministry of the Interior in Accra.

The occasion was presided over by Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, Minister of the Interior.
The new council is supposed to provide strategic leadership and oversight for the GIS’s operations and development, which is vital to the country’s border security, migration control, and national development goals.
