Prosper Narteh Ogum officially leaves Asante Kotoko as head coach

Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum and Asante Kotoko have finally parted ways, bringing an emotional and tragic chapter in the history of one of Ghana’s most illustrious football clubs to a conclusion.

Prosper Narteh Ogum, who is respected for his strategic thinking and calm manner, departs as the Porcupine Warriors are struggling in the Ghana Premier League.

Following a run of subpar performances, including back-to-back defeats to Nations FC and Accra Lions, which left the team’s title aspirations hanging in the balance, he left.

Even with the recent setbacks, Ogum’s legacy endures. During his first season, he led Kotoko to a traditional league victory in the 2021–2022 season, which filled the supporters with hope for a sustainable future and brought back memories of the club’s heyday.

Anticipation was high for his 2024 comeback as well, but issues on and off the pitch made sure the squad never again achieved those heights.

This season, Kotoko had 13 victories, 8 ties, and 7 losses in 28 league games. Before the pivotal MTN FA Cup semi-final matchup against Berekum Chelsea, the Interim Management Committee (IMC) decided a change in strategy was necessary because inconsistency had finally cost them.

It is a bittersweet exit for Ogum. His influence on player development, discipline, and club structure cannot be understated, despite the fact that recent results have angered Red Army supporters.
