The Ghana Police Service has released the shocking results of a forensic investigation into the murder of Immigration Officer Stephen King Amoah. His body was found burnt on 9 July 2025, in a gutter near GBC Satellite, across from Comet Estate, Accra.
The victim worked at the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) headquarters and had been missing since July 4, 2025. The discovery led to an extensive search operation.
This morning (August 4), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, the Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, held a press conference to give a full update on the ongoing investigation. A suspect who was first charged with kidnapping is now facing a formal murder charge.
COP Donkor discussed the terrible things that forensic teams found at several crime scenes.
When authorities went to the suspect’s home, they found alarming evidence:
“A forensic inspection showed the following: Blood stains in the living room and signs that someone tried to wipe them up. A can of spray paint that is empty and walls that have just been painted. A search of a second murder site near the GBC satellite area also found a burned wooden carpet with blood on it and some burned camouflage cloth. COD Donkor said, “These items were photographed, picked up, and processed for forensic analysis.”
All of these things were carefully “photographed, retrieved, and processed for forensic analysis.”
On July 24, 2025, the investigation got more serious when police got a court order to inspect a specific room in the suspect’s house more thoroughly. This search found “more blast stains,” which were photographed and sampled again for forensic investigation.
Additionally, a highly important find was made “in the bushes about 100 meters from the suspect’s house,” where a “fufu pestle with blast stains all over it wrapped in polythene” was found.
The police also took the suspect’s car, where “some blood stains were also seen,” and took samples for testing.
COP Donkor acknowledged that the “initial blood samples collected have tested positive for human blood.” This is a crucial step.
The deceased mother and son provided samples for DNA profiling to establish a clear connection between the blood evidence and the victim.
Because of the growing amount of forensic evidence, Bright Aweh was “re-arrested and formally charged with murder.”
When Amoah originally went away, he was accused with kidnapping.
The suspect is currently on remand after appearing before the Adabraka District Court and is set to reappear on August 8, 2025.
COP Donkor ended by saying that “a special operation is currently underway to identify and arrest his accomplices.”
“We are following other important leads to get all the evidence we need against the suspect and his accomplices,” she told the audience.
