Police Detective Corporal John Evans Ayerakwa Kumordzie, who resigned from the Ghana Police Service in 2019 to campaign for President John Mahama, has been named the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Akuapem North.
His confirmation comes after President Mahama nominated 33 people as Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) for the Eastern Region.
Kumordzie received 32 yes votes and 16 no votes, accounting for 66.7% of the valid votes cast.
He earlier resigned from the service and ran as the NDC’s parliamentary candidate in the Okere constituency in the 2020 elections but lost to Dan Botwe.
Kumordzie, 40, returned to the Akuapem North Constituency in 2024 and ran against NPP candidate Sammy Awuku, but was defeated.
In 2019, he formally submitted his resignation letter to the then-IGP, David Asante-Apeatu, in compliance with the Police Service Act.
Following his confirmation, Rita Akosua Awatey Adjei, Eastern Regional Minister, administered the oath of office and confidentiality.
