Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has been officially invited by the Ghana Police Service to participate in an ongoing investigation after a video went viral purporting to show him attacking a police officer during the “Save the Judiciary demonstration.”
The Police said in a statement that after reviewing several video recordings of the incident, it was decided to enlist Afenyo-Markin’s assistance in the investigation.
The Police Service formally requested in a letter to the Speaker of Parliament that Afenyo-Markin be released to assist with the investigation.
Enquiries will also be assisted by the cop who was allegedly involved in the altercation.
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s actions during the demonstration have been supported by Bright Ofori Ampofo, Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfro. According to Ampofo, the lawmaker was compelled to retaliate after being assaulted by a police officer.
