Following an accident near the Amanase Estate Junction on the Accra-Kumasi Highway, approximately 13 persons are thought to have died and numerous others were seriously injured.

The graphic incident is said to have happened early on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

In the collision, a Sprinter bus with registration number GW 6510-23 and a fuel tanker with registration number GR 1300-16 were going in opposing directions.

The Sprinter bus that was travelling to Kumasi was struck head-on by the fuel tanker that was travelling to Accra after it apparently swerved out of its lane.

The number of fatalities was confirmed by ADO1 Akonnor Opare Ohene Daniel, the Ghana National Fire Service’s Suhum Municipal Public Relations Officer. He also mentioned that some passengers were stuck and needed to be removed from the debris.

The tanker driver’s mate recalled in an interview that he slept off in the middle of the trip and awoke to see the driver had swerved into the other lane.

While the deceased’s bodies have been placed in the mortuary, the injured are being treated at the Suhum Government Hospital.
