Christian Atsu played on the national team 65 times and scored nine goals in his career there. At the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, which was held in Equatorial Guinea, he scored multiple goals, and one of those goals earned him the honor of Goal of the Tournament. He was also voted the Most Valuable Player at the tournament.
During the course of his professional career, Atsu was a member of a number of illustrious clubs in Europe, including FC Porto, Chelsea, Newcastle United, Everton, and Malaga.
