President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to transform selected nursing and midwifery colleges nationwide into degree-awarding institutions.

During his Thank-You tour to the Ahafo Region on Saturday, May 31, Mahama reiterated his commitment to enhancing tertiary education facilities, particularly in neglected areas.

“We remain dedicated to developing tertiary education, particularly in disadvantaged areas. In accordance with this, the NDC government would create a university in the Ahafo Region to provide world-class programs in agriculture, natural resources, and health sciences,” he said.

Mahama emphasised that converting health training schools into degree-granting colleges would not only improve the professional development of nurses and midwives but also boost the country’s healthcare delivery system.

“We will transform selected nursing and midwifery colleges in the region into degree-granting institutions. And we will continue to distribute buses to SHSs and health training institutions to assist with academic activities,” he said.

He also stated that the distribution of buses to senior high schools and health training institutions would continue, easing transportation issues and supporting academic activities around the nation.
