Fred Nuamah, actor-turned-politician, has decided not to run in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.
In a letter that he sent to the party, in which he referred to the choice as “personal,” he explained that he withdrew after coming to the conclusion alone, following thorough consultations with important stakeholders, and without any influence from the outside.
“I firmly believe that the NDC must present a unified front for the 2024 general elections. As a dedicated member of the NDC, I prioritize the party’s unity and the President John Mahama project aimed at rescuing our country,” Mr Nuamah wrote.
Fred Nuamah withdraws from Ayawaso West Wuogon race
The film producer expressed his gratitude to all of his supporters, including his followers and well-wishers, and added that he values the time he was able to spend with each individual.
Mr. Nuamah placed his support behind John Dumelo, his main challenger in the struggle for the Ayawaso West Wuogon candidature, and urged on his followers to do the same when he announced his resignation from the campaign. John Dumelo is aspiring to be the member of parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon.
Mr. Nuamah stated in his letter that he “throws my support behind my good friend and brother, Mr. John Dumelo, to be the parliamentary candidate for the NDC in the Ayawaso West-Wuogon constituency.” “I wholeheartedly endorse and throw my support behind my good friend and brother, Mr. John Dumelo,” Mr. Nuamah said.
In addition, he stated, “I urge all of my supporters across all levels of the party in the constituency to rally behind John Dumelo and provide him with the necessary support.” We have the ability to win the elections in 2024 if we work together and cultivate a deeper sense of community amongst ourselves. This will allow us to pull our country out of the situation it is in currently.
Background
Ghanaians were caught aback in March when they learned that Fred Nuamah and John Dumelo would be competing against one another for the NDC parliamentary nomination for Ayawaso West Wuogon in advance of the general election in 2024.
The first person to declare their desire to run for office was Fred Nuamah, and a few days later, John Dumelo did the same.
Despite the fact that Fred Nuamah was the first to announce his desire, many people encouraged him to step aside in favour of his colleague, who had already represented the party in 2020.
John Dumelo was accused of acting in bad faith by Fred Nuamah when he claimed that he had the support of his friend in order to compete in the elections.
However, in an interview with UTV, John Dumelo refuted the allegations and referred to Fred Nuamah as a liar.
He revealed that Fred Nuamah never had any kind of conversation with him about his desire to run for the seat of Ayawaso West Wuogon at any point in time.
Mr. Nuamah was given the assurance that their friendship would not suffer as a result of the strain between them.
However, in April, the party decided to halt the vetting of the candidates in advance of the primary elections for the parliamentary seats. A similar decision was made to postpone the election in the constituency.
