The Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) will go on as scheduled, according to the National Teaching Council (NTC), notwithstanding recent remarks made by Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister of Education.

During an engagement with stakeholders on July 15, the Education Minister demanded that the final teacher licensure exams be finished by August 30. The Minister urged all relevant bodies to work with the NTC Registrar to establish a concrete date and make sure the process is finished by the deadline.

Following the Minister’s comments, potential applicants expressed worry about potential modifications to the licensure exams timetable.

But in a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the NTC has taken steps to dispel those concerns.

According to the Council, “the Minister’s remarks in this video have no bearing whatsoever on the forthcoming GTLE that is set for Friday through Sunday.”

Further, the NTC explained that the new format of the licensing tests would only be applicable to individuals who are almost finished with their academic programs in subsequent cohorts, and that the current group of applicants registered for the 2025 GTLE will take the test as originally scheduled.

The message stressed that all registered candidates for 2025 should pay attention to and follow this notice.

The Council wants to ensure that registered applicants can confidently and effectively prepare for their tests by clearing up any misunderstandings and preserving trust in the licensing procedure.
