The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially begun the nomination process for its 2026 presidential primaries, kicking off what promises to be a fiercely competitive fight to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.

At a press conference in Accra on Monday, July 29, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party’s General Secretary, announced that nominations would begin and end on Thursday, August 28, 2025.

“I’m happy to announce to you that we have officially opened nominations for our party members to become presidential candidates of our party for the 2028 elections,” according to him.

The party’s guidelines require prospective applicants to submit a non-refundable application cost of GHS100,000 for the nomination forms. In addition, candidates must pay a filing cost of GHS500,000 to finish the procedure.

The presidential primaries are scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
