On Monday, April 7, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will hold a conference at its headquarters to discuss growing concerns over suspected drug trafficking instances in the nation.

The party’s general secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, has clarified the agenda, defying previous reports that suggested the meeting would centre on the disciplinary case of former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo.

“[Monday] there will be a meeting at the NPP headquarters, but I am going to disappoint you—it is not going to be a discussion on whether or not Honourable Adwoa Safo is going to appear before a disciplinary committee or not,” Frimpong said in an interview with Channel One Newsroom on Sunday, April 6.

Nonetheless, the party will talk about the ongoing problem of alleged drug trafficking in our nation, about which the party’s members have voiced their displeasure and the concerning actions of this administration.

He continued by criticising the government’s approach to the problem, pointing out its lack of transparency and clarity.

The discrepancies in the government’s attempt to hide a number of issues that are related to the alleged drug trafficking in our airport, as well as the numerous mind-boggling concerns that we expect the government to address to the people of Ghana,” Frimpong continued.

According to the NPP, the conference would assist form a more unified party reaction and put more significant pressure on the government to address the issue.
