According to reports, a young guy who is thought to be a fan of Kennedy Ohene Agyapong—who ran for and lost the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer competition ahead of the 2024 elections—was attacked by people who are allegedly party vigilantes.

This occurred in the Ashanti Region’s Bantama Constituency during the NPP’s “Thank You Tour.”

The attackers allegedly threatened the victim, who was among a group of students from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), with pistols on many occasions before firing eight warning shots into the air, according to witnesses.

The students allegedly tried to stop the armed men from removing the money that had been given out after the event, which sparked the altercation.

During the altercation, the victim, who is not being named, was stabbed in the upper right rib.

After minor surgery, the victim’s condition is stable, according to medical professionals in the emergency room of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Members of the student organisation said that the initial confrontation took place inside an auditorium when NPP leaders were speaking to supporters.

After singing songs in support of Kennedy Agyapong, they claim they were threatened.

One of our members challenged one of the guys who was brandishing a pistol, and he put the gun away and left, according to an eyewitness.

After an unknown person gave the gang an undisclosed amount of money, tensions increased. The armed guys allegedly seized the cash and threatened the students at gunpoint once more.

When the guy tried to get the money back by calling for help, another altercation broke out. The attackers reportedly fired into the air.

They talked in Hausa when I challenged the men. We tried persuading them to give back at least a portion of the cash. The GH¢200 they provided us was insufficient, according to a witness.

As we continued to press, one of them drew a revolver and sprayed eight rounds into the air. As we fled, one of them pulled out a knife and stabbed my coworker.

Police have been notified of the event and have recovered eight expended gunshot casings from the area.

Former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong paid the victim a visit at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital on Monday night.

Following the event, Mr. Agyapong may be thinking about leaving the current NPP “Thank You Tour,” according to sources close to Joy News.
