The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has dismissed reports that a statewide power outage is expected to occur in Ghana on Sunday, July 13, calling the assertions false and deceptive.

According to reports, there might be brief power outages on Sunday, July 13, 2025, as a result of an ENI shutdown planned to boost gas production and perform plant maintenance. John Abdulai Jinapor, the Minister of Energy and Green Transition, made this statement.

On Wednesday, July 9, Richmond Rockson, the Ministry’s spokesperson and head of communication, explained on Citi Eyewitness News that although planned maintenance by ENI may cause brief power outages, there are no plans for a nationwide blackout or a return to widespread “dumsor.”

There will be a nationwide blackout, according to some media outlets’ inaccurate claims, which I have witnessed. However, the minister did not say that. “That’s not true; that’s a lie,” said Rockson.

“He [the Energy Minister] stated that there is a chance that we will experience power outages as a result, and the Ministry has implemented measures to guarantee that there is neither a nationwide dumsor nor any dumsor as people are speculating.”
