The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has won the Akwatia by-election held today. The NDC candidate, Lawyer Bernard Bediako Baidoo, secured victory over the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Solomon Asumadu, with reported results showing a lead of about 54% to 45%.
According to provisional figures, Bernard Bediako had a comfortable margin of votes over Solomon Asumadu, with some polling stations showing Bediako with significantly more votes. This by-election followed the death of the incumbent NPP MP Ernest Yaw Kumi.
The results have been confirmed by election data and political commentators who had also predicted the NDC’s win based on pre-election polls citing voter preferences for development and education levels in the constituency. The victory was peaceful and welcomed by residents of Akwatia.
The NDC is the confirmed winner of the Akwatia by-election in 2025 with Bernard Bediako as the newly elected MP.
