JUST IN: NDC to win in 11 regions, NPP to suffer dip in Ashanti

According to a recent survey, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will lead 11 regions for the forthcoming December 7 votes.

Research by SBM Intelligence indicates that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ‘s vote share in its stronghold, the Ashanti Region, is projected to drop somewhat.

With barely three months remaining until the presidential and parliamentary elections, political groups are stepping up their campaigns to unite their followers.

The September 2024 study indicated: “In the elections the NDC is projected to secure victory in 11 regions, including all three swing regions, leaving only five regions for the NPP.”

The NPP in the Northern, Western North and Oti regions is predicted to be fiercely competitive for the NDC.

The Ashanti Region has always held notable allegiance to the ruling NPP.

Nonetheless, the “NPP is projected to win around 70.5% of the votes in Ashanti, down from the 72.8% it garnered in the 2020 presidential election.”

Apart from that, “the NDC is expected to easily maintain three (Upper East, Upper West, and Savannah) out of the five regions and battle the NPP for the Northern region.”

“In the North East, Bawumia’s candidacy is expected to help the NPP maintain its win and improve its vote share from 51.40% to 55.8%..”

Dubbed “Ghana’s 2024 elections: A preview,” the data in this study is just current as of Thursday, September 12, 2024.

Over twenty presidential candidates effectively turned in their forms to the Electoral Commission (EC) earlier this month to challenge the election.

This corresponds with the rise of fresh contenders steadily acquiring ground to seize control.

On this issue, the study indicated that “many Ghanaians wonder about the ability of the emerging third forces to challenge the two big parties.”

“The general consensus is that, at best, these smaller parties could be successful in driving the election towards a runoff.”
