Abraham Amaliba, the NDC’s director of legal affairs, has asked the Ghana Police Service’s Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to look into statements made by Bryan Acheampong, the minister of food and agriculture, that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would not cede power to the NDC.

“That your petitioner says that the said Hon. Bryan Acheampong continued to say that they—the NPP will show the NDC that the NPP has the men and that the NPP will do everything possible—fair or foul—to remain in power come what may in the 2024 general elections,” Mr. Amaliba said in the petition dated April 11, 2023.

I have included audio and video recordings of Hon. Bryan Acheampong’s statements here for your review.

“That in the opinion of Your Petitioner and those of the general public, the statements made by Hon. Bryan Acheampong could be read as implying that the NPP has devised a grand plan to thwart the will of the people of Ghana in the 2024 elections and that any attempt to resist them would be met with violence.”

Your petitioner would want to bring up Hon. Bryan Acheampong’s unilateral and unlawful use of NPP thugs dressed in National Security Operatives uniforms to attack Hon. Sam Dzata George, innocent voters, and injure several NDC supporters during the Ayawaso West Wuogon By-Elections.

“Your Petitioner claims that given Hon. Bryan Acheampong’s infamous and disgraceful history of inciting NPP hoodlums to commit acts of violence against Ghanaians, his statements on the 8th day of April, 2023, border on threats to national security and democracy and should not be taken lightly.”

Members of the NPP had received assurances from Bryan Acheampong that the economy would improve.

He claimed that the government was trying to reach an agreement with the IMF. (IMF).

He expressed hope that the deal would be finalized by June of this year, which would result in an uptick in the economy.

On April 8, following a health walk, the Abetifi Lawmaker declared, The NDC party will collapse,” speaking to NPP members in Kwahu. We will let the NDC know that we have the men if they try to employ violence, threats, or other dumb tactics during the 2024 election. We will demonstrate to them that we have men. The men are here.

We, the NPP, would never stand on a podium to offer the NDC the keys to the country. It will not ever take place! At all costs, we will make sure the NPP stays in power.

“Now with the way things are changing, the economy will bounce back again. I am telling you that we are going to come around that curve and we are going to win the 2024 elections handily,” the former minister of state in charge of national security stated.
