On Saturday, August 10, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), accompanied a group of the party’s Ashanti Regional executives to Obogu in the Asante Akyem South Municipality to lament with the families of 16 Saviour Church of Ghana members.
The victims unfortunately died in a car accident on Monday, July 28, while returning from the church’s annual celebration.
During the visit, NDC leadership contributed GH₵10,000 to the Saviour Church of Ghana and GH₵50,000 to bereaved families to meet their needs during this difficult time.
Four additional church members are still in the hospital receiving treatment, with church authorities stating that they are doing well. The tragedy occurred about 2:30 p.m. when a vehicle conveying the congregants crashed with a petroleum truck driving in the opposite direction.
The incident has left the Obogu community and the Saviour Church in great sorrow, with many families mourning many deaths.
Mr Nketiah addressed the grieving community at the church’s Obogu branch, urging them to remain strong and cling on to their faith.
“We learnt of this tragedy from the party’s liaison person with the church. We felt prompted to come here today to console the families and offer words of encouragement,” he explained.
He said further: “The pain is unbearable, especially for those who have lost two or three children.”
