SACO, Maine — Following the issuance of an Amber Alert on Thursday night, public safety officials revealed early on Friday morning that a mother and her child who had been reported abducted from Saco had been located safe.
Just before 12:45 a.m., Shannon Moss, a spokesman for the Maine Department of Safety, sent an update stating that the 35-year-old mother and her 3-year-old daughter had been found. According to a news release issued by Saco police on Friday, they were not hurt physically.
A male suspect forced the girl and her mother into a white Ford Explorer registered in New York about 11:30 a.m. on Elm Street in Saco, according to a news release issued by Moss on Thursday night. The police suspected they were abducted based on information from the reporting party.
Saco police got collaborating with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Maine State Police, and Biddeford police to find them. The Framingham Police Department in Massachusetts and the New York State Police offered support as the inquiry grew.
At at 3:41 p.m., according to Moss, the Ford Explorer crossed the toll bridge and entered New York State. The car was eventually found near Peekskill, New York, according to Saco police.
