MoMo transactions hit GH¢649.2bn in only 2 months of 2025

In the first two months of 2025, momo transactions reached GH¢649.2 billion in total.

This marked a year-on-year increase of 64.68%.

In the first two months of 2024, mobile money transactions were anticipated to be worth GH¢394.2 billion.

The Bank of Ghana reported that momo transactions in January 2025 were GH¢333 billion.

It decreased to GH¢316.2 billion in February 2025.

This is despite the existence of the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-levy), which was eliminated by the new government last week.

Analysts anticipate that mobile money transactions will increase further, strengthening the financial technology market.

Meanwhile, there were 74.1 million registered mobile money accounts, compared to 66.9 million during the same period in 2024.

The number of registered agents was anticipated to be 896,000, however there were 411,000 active agents.

In 2024, mobile money transactions reached a record amount of GH¢3.0192 trillion, representing a 57.90% year-on-year increase.
