He argues that one should be worried about the government’s deafening silence on the issue sometimes known as galamsey.

On October 15, 2024, Parliament is scheduled to start the fifth meeting of its fourth session at the Dome of the Accra International Conference Centre.

The Member of Parliament for Lower Manya Krobo underlined in Citi News that it is concerning that the administration is not tackling the problem.

“I will bring up a few issues on the floor of Parliament once we return. It has to do with galamsey as well as governmental response. Whoever has to answer will be hauled to Parliament to help explain the reasons behind the current state of affairs.

“This government is stoned mute while the whole nation is in arms against illegal mining. Their primary thought is to win the election, which is unacceptable.

Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi also bemoaned the several delays in Parliament enacting the Environmental Protection Bill.

“I am starting to realize the reason some of the ministers, some of the presidential appointees are rejecting and will not let us pass the EPA bill which gives the EPA certain authority and policing power to control all the several institutions that have something to do with the environment.”

“We have had difficulties where ministers from different ministries have sought to suppress our attempt to bring that bill into existence.”
