President John Dramani Mahama has guaranteed the people of Kumasi that the long-abandoned Krofrom Market project will be completed and running by the end of 2026.
The market, which began in 2007, has remained unfinished for more than a decade, becoming a haven for thieves and reptiles, much to the dismay of traders and citizens.
On Wednesday, July 16, as part of his Thank-You Tour of the Ashanti Region, President Mahama inspected the project site and promised to take all necessary means to ensure its completion and activation.
He underlined the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s aim of improving market infrastructure across the country.
“In our manifesto, we have something called the Market Enhancement Programme, in which we have identified 18 markets in Ghana that we intend to structure.
“So I’ve requested the Mayor to write to the Vice President and include Krofrom so that the project may be completed for effective marketing. “I believe the Krofrom Market will be completed by the end of 2026,” President Mahama stated.
Market Queen Adwenehemaa Nana Sakina expressed her gratitude to the President, noting that he is the only leader capable of completing abandoned market projects and assisting traders. She also assured the complete support of market women for the NDC.
