President John Dramani Mahama has given amnesty to 998 prisoners across the country, as recommended by the Prisons Service Council, in collaboration with the Council of State, and in compliance with Article 72(1) of the 1992 Constitution.

The decision is part of the President’s constitutional obligation to show mercy in meritorious circumstances. A total of 1,014 inmates were proposed for amnesty, with 998 approved.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Presidential Spokesperson and Minister of Government Communications, announced the decision in a statement.
