The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) Ghana has come under fire from the Mahama 2024 Campaign for its latest declaration.
Prior to the December elections, the IEA stated earlier this week that there would be a presidential debate.
One of Ghana’s main political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), was neither consulted or informed prior to the announcement, according to the campaign.
The Mahama 2024 Campaign stressed in a news release that the IEA is not authorized by the Constitution to plan events connected to elections.
“The IEA is not authorized by the Ghanaian Constitution to plan events connected to elections. The IEA’s intentions are seriously questioned given that it lacks the decency or respect to at least notify the NDC of its plans, according to the release signed by Mr. Mahama’s spokesperson, Joyce Mogtari.
The campaign, on Friday, accused the IEA of lacking the decency and respect to inform the NDC of its plans, raising questions about the institute’s motives.
The campaign further alleged that the IEA is “acting as a front for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and seeks to manipulate the electoral process in favor of the ruling party.”
The statement said Mr. Mahama’s conversations have targeted a wide range of audiences and focused on addressing the needs and concerns of the people of Ghana.
