Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has emerged as the clear frontrunner in the contest to lead the opposition NPP into the 2028 general elections, according to a new Global Info Analytics poll issued on August 21, 2025.

According to the survey, Dr. Bawumia has 52% support among NPP delegates ahead of the party’s presidential primaries, giving him a clear advantage over his opponents.

His nearest contender, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, is well behind, at 17%. Other candidates performed poorly, with Dr. Bryan Acheampong receiving 3%, former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum receiving 1%, and former General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong, Boakye Agyarko, and Addai Nimo each receiving less than 1%.

According to the poll, 10% of delegates are still uncertain, while 9% have declined to announce their decision, allowing for late shifts as the primaries near.

Between August 12 and 20, Global Info Analytics conducted computer-assisted telephone interviews with 2,656 NPP delegates from 263 constituencies, with 2,560 responding in full. The poll has a 99% confidence level and a margin of error of ±2.44%.

While the data show Dr. Bawumia’s overwhelming position, observers warn that consolidating uncommitted delegates is vital to winning the upcoming race.
