Kwame Opoku was the star of the show when Asante Kotoko defeated Golden Kick to win the 2024/25 MTN FA Cup.

Opoku scored in either half to help Karim Zito’s side win 2-1 at the University of Ghana Stadium.

The Porcupine Warriors had a tremendous start to the game, taking the lead after only 16 minutes through Opoku and completing off after some sloppy defending by Golden Kick.

Despite falling down, Golden Kick grabbed control of the game and controlled the tempo, creating good chances in the final third but unable to draw level.

Their equaliser, however, came in the 31st minute, when Bless Ege beat the Kotoko custodian with a superb free kick.

The two teams headed into the break with the same score.

Both teams had numerous chances to take the lead after break but squandered them in the final moments.

Kotoko found luck on their side with only a few minutes remaining in the game. Zito’s team was awarded a penalty when the referee ruled that the Golden Kick custodian fouled Opoku in the box, a decision that has raised many issues.

However, following debate with his assistant, the referee stood by his decision.

Opoku went up and converted the penalty to secure the FA Cup victory.
