The 2024/25 Ghana Premier League (GPL) kicked off with a fascinating series of matches across various stadiums, with some teams shining with exceptional performances and others suddenly faltering.

Mawuli Wayo’s second-half strike helped Hearts of Oak win 1-0 over Vision FC at the University of Ghana Stadium on Friday, giving the club back-to-back Premier League victories.

Dreams FC won for the first game this season on Saturday, defeating Medeama SC 1-0 thanks to Joseph Esso’s second-half penalty. This was Medeama’s first back-to-back defeats this season, following their loss against Hearts of Oak.

Bibiani Gold Stars, the Premier League’s leaders, extended their unbeaten streak with a draw against Young Apostles FC at the Wenchi Stadium on Sunday.

Kpando Heart of Lions moved into the top four with a close 1-0 home victory over Berekum Chelsea, with Christian Agyenim scoring the only goal.

At Nana Gyeabour Park, Kotoko’s struggles continued as Kofi Tompuo’s spectacular 27th-minute strike gave Bechem United a 1-0 victory over Kotoko, extending the Porcupine Warriors’ winless streak to three.

Nations FC took center stage on Sunday, defeating Nsoatreman FC 3-0 at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex, thanks to a brace from the league’s top scorer, Faisal Charwetey, and a goal from Bi Boris, as Kasim Mingle’s side extended their home unbeaten streak to 22 matches, setting a new league record.

Aduana FC resumed their recovery with a 1-0 win over Karela United at Nana Agyemang Badu I Park. Gideon Boateng’s one goal made the difference between the two sides.

Basake Holy Stars, making their league debut, defeated Accra Lions 2-1 at the Crosby Awuah Memorial (C.A.M) Park on Sunday, adding to the Lions’ woes, since they had yet to win in their last six league matches. Prince Tweneboah’s second-half brace was enough to spark Holy Stars’ comeback after falling behind in the first half to their goalkeeper’s blander.

Seidu Abubakar caused an emotional meltdown for Legon Cities by scoring in the dying minutes of the game, giving FC Samartex a 1-0 victory.
