The National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by John Mahama, has urged that the party stage a demonstration on September 17 to emphasize their demand that the Electoral Commission audit the voter registration.
Speaking to NDC supporters at Sampa in the Bono Region’s Jaman North District, John Mahama asked them to visit the EC offices in order to make sure the proper procedures are followed prior to the polls on December 7.
“The Electoral Commission must up their game and do things right if we desire free, fair, and peaceful elections,” he added, pointing to the numerous gaps in the voter registration.
John Mahama stated that to get everything in order before the elections, they [the EC] needed to critically inspect the register.
According to John Mahama, the rally will serve as a reminder to the EC to take action about the register.
Therefore, the NDC will stage a demonstration in each town that has an EC office on September 17th. “It has been announced by our chairman, Johnson Aseidu Nketiah,” he declared at Sampa.
He said, “NDC [supporters], you wear your t-shirts, and you go and demonstrate to the EC office so that we can put pressure on them to do their job and do what they have to do to ensure a peaceful and transparent elections.”
On Monday, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the chair of the party, gave the EC John Mahama’s nomination paperwork for the elections scheduled for December 7.
Mr. Mahama reminded the supporters of the ramifications of elections while thanking the party and everyone who had supported his forms.
“Voting well promotes growth and well-being. But, hardship results if you vote poorly and a person ignorant of governance takes office “, the speaker stated.
Mahama noted that since the New Patriotic Party took office eight years ago, Ghanaians had experienced extreme economic suffering.
