Minister for Youth, Sports, and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has voiced disappointment with Black Stars coach Otto Addo’s performance, warning that Ghana’s national team has much work ahead to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

His comments add to increasing pressure on the Black Stars’ coaching staff to achieve consistent results and restore confidence in the team before upcoming tournaments.

On Friday, September 5, the Black Stars drew 1-1 with Chad and narrowly won 1-0 against Mali on Monday, September 8. Despite the victory, Adams maintained that the team’s displays have been unimpressive.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on September 10, 2025, the Sports Minister expressed concern over Ghana’s unpredictable performances in the ongoing World Cup qualifiers.

He highlighted the approaching Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco and questioned Ghana’s participation, stating that without securing necessary results, the team might only watch the tournament on TV. Adams emphasized that the squad still needs a win and a draw to guarantee a leading position in their group.

Regarding coach Otto Addo, Adams said his current performance does not deserve praise. While acknowledging that Addo takes responsibility for mistakes, the Minister questioned how long the coach can keep explaining poor decisions without improvement
