John Agyekum Kufuor, the former president, has expressed his profound unhappiness with what he sees as the party he once led to a historic two-term triumph ignoring and excluding him.
The former president talked candidly about his increasing sense of exclusion from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in an interview with Abetifi MP and flagbearer candidate Bryan Acheampong.
“If there are still seniors in this party… “I am one,” declared Kufuor.
He bemoaned the present party leadership’s lack of involvement, saying that in spite of his institutional memory and accomplishments, he is currently being kept in the dark about important developments.
Have I gotten that bad that I would say I haven’t eaten after being fed? No, I haven’t yet arrived at that point. “My memory and mind are intact,” he stated resolutely.
Kufuor recounted the NPP’s rise from its ideological foundations in the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) through decades of political hardship. The party’s historic win in 2000 marked a watershed in Ghana’s democratic history.
“I haven’t said much, but I have been observing. “Very closely,” he said. “The party should at least keep me updated. Tell me what’s going on, please.
The statesman highlighted the emotional impact of his absence by expressing confusion at the way the party treated him.
“And now… Am I being marginalised? Disregarded? I don’t comprehend it. Actually, I don’t.
Many people believe that President Kufuor, who led Ghana from 2001 to 2009, advanced economic reforms and strengthened democratic institutions.
His remarks are probably going to cause the NPP to discuss how it interacts with its senior statesmen and founding stalwarts.
