Dr. Stephen Amoah, the Deputy Minister Nominee for Trade and Industry, has stated that he will be willing to take a pay cut if Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader, accepts to reduce his salary as part of his contribution to dealing with the economic challenges. Amoah has stated that he will do the same if Forson agrees to lower his salary.

This came as a result of Dr. Forson’s question, which was posed to him at his screening on Tuesday, February 21, and asked whether he would be willing to assist the government in cutting costs by surrendering his pay.

Dr. Forson, who is also a lawmaker for Ajumako Enyan Essiam, asked the question, “Can you agree with me that the government, even though they are increasing taxes or increasing revenue through the introduction of taxes, needs to cut down on expenditure because expenditure has increased by 82 billion Cedis?” Dr. Forson is also a lawmaker for Ajumako Enyan Essiam.

In response, Stephen Amoah said, “Sir, I couldn’t agree with you more.”

Dr. Ato Forson inquired once more. “Are you willing to forego some of your salary in order to save money on that expense?”

The lawmaker from Nhyiaeso responded once more by saying, “Mr. Chairman, I think I said something here. My knowledgeable Dr. Ato Forson and I, the only difference is the highest, so the way we are brothers, if he sees me on the corridor and he says, “Brother, let us cut [our salaries], and he cuts his, then I will cut mine.”
