Ace Ghanaian gospel performer Jacob Kwaw, also known as Jack Alolome, has spoken out about the personal experience that drove him to switch political allegiances from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM on June 23, 2025, the artist, who was up in a family of fervent NPP supporters, described how a disappointing experience with the NPP led him to reconsider his commitment.
Jack Alolome revealed that he once cancelled his own scheduled performance in Breman Asikuma to assist an NPP function in the Kumasi Sports Stadium at the request of NPP official Sam Pyne.
Sam Pyne requested me to perform in an NPP programme at the Kumasi Sports Stadium. I had to discontinue my own programme at Breman Asikuma. We came and gave an excellent show.
According to him, Lord Inusah introduced him and even sang an impromptu campaign song at the ceremony. However, when it came time to pay, no one took responsibility.
Whoever I called for payment directed me to someone else. We never got paid.
Later that year, Alolome stated that NDC Member of Parliament Kofi Buah had invited him to perform at a campaign event. Despite technological difficulties that compelled him to sing a cappella for five minutes, the reception he received left an indelible mark.
When I returned to my hotel, they came to thank me for attending the event. In 2016, they left me GH¢20,000.
I set it on my bed, took a picture, and sent it to my family, telling them that this party was superior and that we should be there instead.
Alolome stated that his decision to join the NDC was motivated by the party’s esteem and gratitude, rather than money greed.
It was not about the money. It was about the way I was handled. They respected my effort and kept their promise, unlike the NPP.
Since then, the gospel musician has openly endorsed the NDC and its leader, President John Dramani Mahama, claiming that the party truly cherishes people’s contributions.
Alolome’s narrative has generated online debate about the importance of respect and integrity in political activity, especially when it comes to involving artists in party events.
