Eugene Boakye Antwi, a former Member of Parliament for Subin, has openly stated that he does not want President John Dramani Mahama to succeed in office, instead preferring the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to recover power in the 2028 general elections.
Boakye Antwi stated in an interview on Channel One TV’s Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Tuesday, July 1, that while he does not wish Ghana harm, he is skeptical of the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) ability to deliver on its promises.
“I want him (Mahama) to fail, and I want my party to win the 2028 elections. I do not want him to fail, as in fail. But I know that the NDC cannot deliver on its promises,” he remarked.
Drawing on his experience in government, the former MP identified internal political hurdles as a significant impediment to success and predicted that the NDC would confront similar issues.
“I’ve worked in government, and as a President, your appointees may make sure you fail. “The things I saw when we were in government are the same Ghanaians in the NDC, so they will be transferred over,” he explained.
Boakye Antwi underlined that his lack of trust in the NDC’s economic management competence motivates his desire for underperformance.
“I want my party, the NPP, to win, not for Mahama to succeed.” In terms of economic management, I don’t believe the NDC has what it takes,” he added.
