16,574 new HIV infections, 9,359 deaths recorded in 2022

In the year 2022, the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) was responsible for a total of 16,574 new cases of infection in Ghana.

The number was calculated in comparison to a total of 18,036 infections that were reported in 2021.

On Tuesday in Accra, Ghana’s capital city, the Ghana AIDS Commission released a press statement in which they stated this information.

All age groups are represented among the 16,574 newly diagnosed cases of HIV.

The number of illnesses recorded for persons aged 15 years and older was 13,706; the number of infections recorded for children aged 0 to 14 years was 2,180; the number of infections recorded for adolescents aged 10 to 19 years was 645; and the number of infections recorded for young adults aged 15 to 24 years was 739.

Unfortunately, the number of deaths attributed to AIDS among people of all ages was 9,359.

There were 7,179 adults, 2,180 children between the ages of 0 and 14, 645 adolescents between the ages of 10 and 19, and 739 young people between the ages of 15 and 24.

People aged 15 and older have the highest rate of HIV infection in Ghana, with 330,215 cases. The total number of HIV infections in Ghana currently stands at 354,927.
