Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, also known as Nana Agradaa, requested bail, but the Amasaman High Court denied it while her appeal was being heard.
On Tuesday, July 15, Bernard Kofi Asamoah, a lawyer for Agradaa, confirmed the decision.
He clarified that the court denied the bail motion and ordered the Circuit Court to provide all pertinent appeal-related material.
“The court refused to grant us bail pending appeal. The Circuit Court is required to provide the court with all the procedures required for the appeal, under the court’s order. We’ll keep up the appeals process,” Mr. Asamoah said in an interview with Citi FM in Accra.
On July 3, 2025, Agradaa was found guilty of two charges of defrauding by false pretence and charlatanic advertisement. Judge Evelyn Asamoah of the Accra Circuit Court sentenced her to 15 years in prison with hard labour.
The accusations were related to a 2022 money-double plan that was publicised on her Today TV program. Agradaa sought donations with the promise of doubling them.
On July 7, her legal team challenged the conviction and sentence by filing a notice of appeal.
They contend that the trial was tainted by injustice and marked by judicial partiality. They claimed in court documents that the judge’s sentencing was biassed, the judgement lacked evidence, and the 15-year sentence was “harsh and excessive”.
After the Court denied bail pending the appeal, Mr Asamoah affirmed that the team is still fully dedicated to pursuing all possible legal remedies.
