The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is hosting its highly anticipated National Delegates Conference today, Saturday, July 19, at the University of Ghana Stadium, with over 6,000 delegates scheduled to attend.
The conference, titled “Rebuilding Together with Our Values,” is a vital period of reflection for the party as it strives to regroup and rebuild following its setback in the 2024 general elections.
A variety of constitutional amendment proposals aiming at enhancing internal governance, increasing grassroots mobilisation, and streamlining party structures ahead of the 2028 elections are at the heart of the day’s activities.
The chairman of the Planning Committee, Joseph Osei Owusu, said that delegates will consider and vote on over 50 aggregated motions resulting from more than 300 individual suggestions submitted by party members around the country.
“Overall, we have somewhat more than 50 moves. You may have one amendment that contains around 50 proposed amendments. So what the motions do is consolidate the numerous issues that arise, and the members must vote on those motions,” Mr. Osei Owusu noted in an interview with Channel One News.
He noted that the motions were put into a thorough pamphlet and distributed to party members via the General Secretary. Voting is scheduled to be concluded by 4:00 p.m.
