A group of foreign specialists has come in the Ashanti region to support investigations into the horrific military helicopter crash that happened on August 6, 2025, according to confirmation from Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister.
Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and six other people were killed in the accident, which occurred in the Dampia Range Forest Reserve close to Brofoyedru-Sikaman in the Adansi Akrofrom District.
Dr. Amoakohene stated that he has pointed the investigators in the direction of important parties, emphasising the importance of their collaboration to the investigation.
He said he was certain that the local and international teams working together would find the reason of the catastrophe and help stop similar incidents in the future.
The Minister also supported the decision by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to disband the task force that was in charge of implementing environmental laws in mining towns, particularly in the battle against illegal mining, or galamsey.
Although the task force was successful in conducting its activities, the minister said that its methodology ignored important local players, including regional ministers, traditional authorities, and Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).
Dr. Amoakohene emphasised that since community interactions are based on local cooperation and communication, security management cannot be centralised.
“The new reforms will allow the government to better integrate community structures, giving locals a greater sense of ownership in the fight against environmental destruction and illegal mining,” he added.
