Helicopter crash: Final funeral rites of Murtala Mohammed scheduled for today

The funeral ceremonies for Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, the late Minister of Environment, Technology, and Innovation, will take place today, August 7, 2025.

Mourners will gather at the Anbariya Islamic Institute in Tamale at 10 a.m. for Janaza prayers.

After the prayer session, the burial will take place in Zujung Cemetery.

Hon. Murtala Mohammed, who was also the Tamale Central MP, died in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, along with eight others.

Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah was also on board the military Z-9 helicopter, which was on its way to Obuasi for a national assignment.

Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, and three Ghana Air Force members—Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flight Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah—were also killed.

Meanwhile, President John Mahama has declared three days of national mourning, with flags flying at half-mast in remembrance of the deaths.
